  5. Acorn Broadens its A5000 Range 
  6.  
  7. Acorn is expanding its high-power range of computers with
  8. the introduction of a number of new models of the popular
  9. A5000. The range has been augmented by the introduction of
  10. two new hard disc variants as well as two floppy-disc-only
  11. networking models.

  13. A new 2MB A5000 with 80MB hard disc capacity has been
  14. introduced to re-inforce the earlier 40MB version's success
  15. in Acorn's traditional education marketplace, concentrating
  16. on secondary education and teacher training.

  18. Aimed at the more demanding user, there is also now a 4MB
  19. A5000 which comes with a 120MB hard disc. This version is
  20. likely to have particular appeal for those involved with
  21. desk top publishing, multi-media, software development,
  22. image processing and other applications which demand large
  23. memory or disc space.

  25. The new discless network models offer ideal client stations
  26. for addition to either Acorn's proprietary Econet network -
  27. allowing work in mixed environments of Acorn's 8 and 32-bit
  28. machines - or access to industry standard Open Systems
  29. networks via Ethernet.

  31. All A5000 models are driven by an ARM 3 processor delivering
  32. performance in excess of 20,000 Dhrystones - equivalent to a
  33. 486 PC processor. They have four interface sockets which
  34. enable specialist expansion cards to be added where
  35. necessary. The optional Acorn PC Soft software enables DOS
  36. applications to be run concurrently with RISC OS
  37. applications, allowing easy transfer of text and graphics
  38. between the two operating systems.

  40. Commenting on the new expanded series of A5000s, Acorn's
  41. Marketing Manager, Mike O'Riordan said "With the
  42. introduction of these new models, the A5000 range offers a
  43. complete, coherent family of products capable of addressing
  44. a wide range of requirements. The additional performance
  45. provided by the ARM3 processor can be utilised across the
  46. wide range of RISC OS applications available from Acorn and
  47. its many partners.

  49. "The A5000 is the ultimate personal computer from Acorn" he
  50. added. "Discerning computer users now have a real choice
  51. when it comes to the provision of a range of powerful
  52. solutions."

  54. The new A5000 range of products, which come with a multiscan
  55. monitor, will be available from early September 1992 and
  56. will cost:
